Managing App Permissions

What it does

The Permissions screen shows what warpSpeed has been allowed to do on your device, and lets you change it. There are two: location and notifications.

How to use it

  1. Open the User Centre and tap Permissions.
  2. You will see two blocks:
  3. Helpful Location Insights. Location helps Warp give answers that make sense for where you are. It is never tracked or shared.
  4. Helpful Notifications. This lets the app tell you about things that need you, at the time they need you.
  5. Tap Enable location or Enable notifications to turn one on.
  6. If your device has not asked you about that permission yet, it asks now, and the screen updates with your answer.

If the button sends you to your device settings

Once you have answered your device's own prompt, the app cannot ask again. That is your device's rule, not warpSpeed's. So if the permission is already on, or you have turned it down and your device will not re-ask, tapping the button opens your device settings instead, where you can change it. Come back to the app afterwards and the screen will show the new state.

On iPhone, your device stops re-asking after the first time you decline. On Android it depends on whether you chose "don't ask again".

Tips & shortcuts

  • The screen re-checks your device every time you open it, and again whenever you return to the app, so it is always showing the real state.
  • Turning notifications off does not stop things happening in the app, it only stops the app telling you about them.
  • warpSpeed also asks for permissions at the moment it needs them rather than all at once during sign-up, so you may meet these prompts in context before you ever open this screen.
