Starting a New Chat

What it does

The new chat screen lets you start a direct message conversation with any warpSpeed (WS) contact or begin a group chat. You can search by name or email across WS users and non-WS contacts.

How to use it

  1. From the Chats tab, tap the floating new-chat button (bottom-right).
  2. The new chat screen opens with a search bar, placeholder: "Type a name or email".
  3. Your contacts appear in a list. WS contacts (on warpSpeed) are shown separately from non-WS contacts.
  4. Tap a contact to open a direct chat immediately.
  5. To search: type a name or email in the search bar. Results update after a 500ms debounce.
  6. To start a group chat instead: tap the Group option on the new chat screen, see Group Chats.

No contacts state: If you have no contacts, the screen shows: - "You don't have any contacts yet." - "Integrate a contact list or add a new contact and start chatting." - Two buttons: Integrate a contact list (opens integrations modal) and Add a contact (opens create contact form).

Tips & shortcuts

  • Searching by email is useful when you know someone's address but not their display name in warpSpeed.
  • WS contacts and non-WS contacts are listed in separate sections; only WS contacts can receive messages directly.
  • If you have no contacts at all, use the Integrate a contact list button to sync from Google, Outlook, or iCloud first.
