Writing a Task Description

What it does

The Description section holds freeform notes, context, or instructions for a task. It supports rich text formatting and two AI features: Generate Description (creates a description from the task title and metadata) and Breakdown Task (converts an existing description into a structured checklist of sub-steps).

How to use it

Typing a description

  1. Open a task and tap the Description section.
  2. The placeholder reads: "Write a description, or tap the warpSpeed icon to let AI complete one for you."
  3. Tap inside the editor and start typing.
  4. Use the formatting toolbar at the bottom to style your text:
  5. B: Bold
  6. I: Italic
  7. U: Underline
  8. Unordered list (bullet points)
  9. Ordered list (numbered list)
  10. Link (insert a hyperlink)
  11. Undo: undo the last change
  12. Tap Save when done. A clear (✕) button in the top-right corner of the editor clears the field entirely.

Generating a description with AI

  1. Ensure the task has a Title (required; the AI uses this as its primary prompt).
  2. In the Description section, tap the warpSpeed Eye icon in the toolbar (appears once the title or body has content).
  3. The AI generates a description and inserts it into the editor. A loading animation plays while it works.
  4. Edit the generated text as needed.

Breaking down a task

Once a description exists, an AI Breakdown Task button appears below the editor.

  1. Tap Breakdown Task (warpSpeed Eye icon + "Breakdown Task" label).
  2. A modal opens and the AI analyses the title and description to generate a structured breakdown of sub-steps.
  3. Review the breakdown in the modal.
  4. Tap Add to Description to append the breakdown as a checklist section, or Close to discard it.
  5. Feedback buttons (thumbs up / thumbs down) let you rate the breakdown quality.

Tips & shortcuts

  • The AI description generator uses the task Title, Location, Priority, and Due Date for better context, fill those in first for the best results.
  • Links in the description are clickable in view mode, useful for adding reference URLs directly in the task body.
  • The Description and Checklist sections are separate: Description is for prose notes; Checklist is for discrete actionable steps. Use both for complex tasks.
