Organising Notes and Tasks into Folders

What it does

Folders group notes together, and group tasks together, once a flat list has stopped being useful. Notes and Tasks each have their own folders: a folder holds notes or it holds tasks, never a mixture.

How to use it

See your folders: 1. Open Notes or Tasks. 2. Switch to the Folders tab. Pinned folders appear first, under a Pinned heading. 3. Tap a folder to see what is in it.

Create a folder: 1. On the Notes or Tasks list, tap the add button. 2. Choose Note Folder or Task Folder, depending on where you are. 3. Give it a Folder Name and, if you want, a description. 4. Save.

Put something in a folder: 1. Open the note or task itself. 2. Use its folder selector to choose the folder. 3. Save. The item now appears inside that folder as well as in the main list.

Tips & shortcuts

  • Items are added from the note or task, not from the folder. If you are looking at an empty folder wondering how to fill it, open the note or task instead.
  • A long folder description is shortened with a Read More link.
  • Folders and tags do different jobs. A folder is one place an item lives; tags cut across everything and let one item carry several. Use tags when you want to find things across modules, folders when you want a tidy list.
  • The Folders tab shows No folders found until you create your first one.
