Hiding Items on Home¶
What it does¶
Some things sit on Home that you do not need to act on: an all-day event marking someone else's leave, a task you know you are not touching today. Hiding takes it off Home without doing anything to the item itself.
How to use it¶
- Find the item: an all-day event in the slot at the top of your schedule, or a task row.
- Use the dismiss control on it.
- It disappears from Home straight away.
What hiding does not do¶
This is the important part. Hiding is a Home-screen preference and nothing more:
- The event is not declined, and the organiser is not told anything.
- The task is not completed, deleted or archived.
- Both are still exactly where they were, in the calendar and on the Tasks screen.
If you want to actually deal with the item, open it and act on it there.
When something you hid comes back¶
Hidden items are remembered against the day they were for. If the item moves to a different day, it comes back.
That is deliberate. Hiding today's stand-up should not silently suppress next week's. So if you hide a task and then change its due date, you will see it again on the new day, which is almost always what you want.
Tips & shortcuts¶
- Hiding is stored on the device you are using and against the account you are signed in to. It does not follow you to another phone, and it does not carry across to another account on the same phone.
- Hidden tasks stop counting towards the tasks figure in Today's summary, so the sentence at the top and the list below always agree.
- Old hides are cleared out after about a week. There is nothing to tidy up.
- The Video Guide section at the bottom of Home can also be dismissed, and a small link stays behind to bring it back if you want it later.
