Asking Warp a Question

What it does

Warp takes free-form questions and instructions in ordinary language. It can find things, take actions across your modules, summarise content, and answer questions, all in one thread that keeps its context between messages.

How to use it

  1. Open Ask Warp, either way.
  2. Tap the composer at the bottom. Before you have started, it reads "Ask me anything…"; once a conversation is under way it changes to "What do you want to do next?"
  3. Type your message. Some examples of what Warp can do:
  4. "Tell me my tasks due today."
  5. "Find the last three emails from Samuel about the marketing campaign."
  6. "Block my calendar from 2pm to 5pm today."
  7. "Summarise the notes from my last three meetings."
  8. "Create a task to mow the lawn in 3 days."
  9. Send. Warp responds in the conversation, and where it takes an action it confirms what it did.
  10. Follow up in the same thread. Warp uses the whole conversation for context.

Choosing how long the answer should be

Next to the composer is an answer-length control showing Long Answer or Short Answer. Long is the default. Tap it to open a small menu and switch:

  • Long Answer gives you the reasoning and the detail.
  • Short Answer gives you the key fact and stops.

Use Short Answer for quick lookups where the detail is noise, and leave it on Long when you want to understand something rather than just check it.

Editing a message you already sent

Long-press one of your own messages for Copy, Select and Edit. Editing re-runs that message, so you can rephrase a question rather than typing it out again and letting the poor version stay in the thread.

Tips & shortcuts

  • Be specific. "Find emails from Alex about the Q3 report sent last week" beats "Find emails from Alex."
  • You can ask for things spanning several modules in one message, for example "Add the meeting details from my last email to my calendar."
  • Where Warp is working across several areas at once, you will see each part reporting its progress separately as the answer comes together.
  • If an answer misses the mark, edit the message and re-run it, or just say what was wrong in the next message.
